Meet Our Officers

President
Lucy Waite
Major: Aerospace Engineering
Minors: Math
Graduation Date: May 2024
As President, I oversee the section and communicate with company representatives to secure sponsorships and forge new relationships. I also support both the officer board to help organize events, pilot new ideas, and plan meetings for the general body. My final role is to communicate the purpose of SWE to other organizations on campus to help spread our influence and message of diversity.
Outside of SWE, I am a pilot, avid baker, gymnast on the VT Club Team, and a hiker. You can find me making sourdough or cakes and sometimes hiking on Blacksburg's many trails on the weekend. I also love doing movie and dinner nights with my friends, and hanging out with my fellow SWEsters when I can.
Oh, and I love animals :) I'm a Senior in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Math, and I hope to work on NASA projects one day.

Vice President
Allie Huszcza
Major: Materials Science Engineering
Minor: Biomedical Engineering, Green Engineering
Graduation Date: May 2025
As Vice President, I coordinate with company sponsors to organize events for our section. I am responsible for hosting all general body meetings, as well as our pro-dev events. In addition, I assist the President and other officers as needed.
Outside of SWE, I am the co-founder/president of the Embroiderers' Guild of America at VT, a tutor at the Student Success Center, and a sister of Alpha Sigma Kappa: Women in Technical Studies. In my free time, I enjoy creating art (mainly through embroidery, crochet, painting, and learning as many artforms possible that my bank account can afford), gaming on my Nintendo Switch, or geeking over Marvel or Star Wars movies/shows!

Secretary
Dora Naz Erdogan
Major: Aerospace Engineering
Graduation Date: May 2025
As Secretary, I send out the weekly newsletters keeping our members up to date about what our section is doing, community events, and various opportunities available to them. I also keep track of attendance for our general body meetings.
Outside of SWE, I am in the Orbital Launch Vehicle Team and a member of the launch operations sub-team. I am also the SEC Representative of SEDS. Outside of school, I love to try new recipes and bake for my friends. Additionally, I play volleyball either outside or at the gym whenever I can find time! I am super excited to be a part of SWE and please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Treasurer
Hiba Sayed
Major: Computer Science​

As Treasurer I am responsible for the collection, distribution, and safekeeping of the section's funds. I also prepare and maintain financial reports as well as file taxes on behalf of the section. I hope to increase transparency of the section's funds in this position to enable new ideas and increased impact by our organization.

I’m a senior Computer Science student that is completing the accelerated masters program at Virginia Tech! I’m passionate about increasing diversity in STEM and being able to leverage money to meet this goal. I’m excited to be able to support SWE members and meet more females in engineering!

Molly Shear
Major: Computer Engineering

As the Webmaster of SWE at Virginia Tech, I maintain this website. If you have ideas or issues with the site, feel free to contact me at the email below.
Outside of SWE, I am involved with the BOLT design team that is building an electric motorcycle. I'm also a ULA for the Frith Lab and a crew member for VT Production Services. For the Galipatia Living-Learning Community, I am a Mentor and a UCL on the Academic Committee. When I'm not running from club to club, I like to watch movies, play board games, and hang out with friends.

Social Committee Chair
Zahra Alam
Major: Chemical Engineering

As Social Committee Chair, I'm in charge of organizing and hosting social events for SWE at VT. My goal is to grow SWE relationships by holding social events that can give members the opportunity to connect over shared interests and fun experiences. I am excited to create spaces where members can feel included, safe, and cared for!

Outside of SWE, I am a part of Alpha Omega Epsilon, the Collegiate Times, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and I’m currently a mentor for Hypatia. In my free time I love to do arts and crafts (currently on a crochet kick), watch a lot of TV (mostly sitcoms), and try new food/drinks! I love to meet new people so please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Community Outreach Chair
Morgan Peterson
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation Date: May 2026
As Community Outreach Chair, it is my responsibility to organize and run service events (S2S) to help give back to the Blacksburg community and help develop community outreach. All SWE events are volunteer-based and seek to assist current standing organizations and charities in and around Blacksburg. Other events we participate in include Gobblerfest and O-Show!
Outside SWE I am a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering. I enjoy spending time with my sorority with other women in technical studies, hanging on the drill field with friends, and going to the gym. I'm an avid reader and can recite to you every Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars Film. Outreach is one of my biggest passions and I hope to someday work for Disney and an Imagineer Engineer or be an Astronaut.

Educational Outreach Chair
Amanda Audette
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation Date: May 2025
As the Educational Outreach Committee chair, I work with K-12 schools, scouting troops, and other educational programs across the New River Valley area and beyond to promote women in STEM and engineering! My role consists of planning these outreach events, being a liaison between K-12 program leaders and SWE, and ensuring our events run smoothly while providing an enriching experience for the young women.
Outside of SWE, I am a member of the HEVT design team. I also enjoy reading, driving, and drinking coffee. Feel free to contact me with any questions or just to talk.

Publicity Chair
Mia Yost-Kelly
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation date: May 2026
As Publicity Chair, my role involves maintaining all SWE social media accounts and advertising our awesome events! One of my goals is to continue to expand the content that our SWE members get from our social platforms, and I want to continue showing others all that we do. I also hope to get more feedback from members and to keep building our amazing SWE community! Be sure to follow us on Instagram, @swe_vt!
Outside of SWE, I am part of the Galipatia living-learning community serving as a mentor as well as an upper-class leader on the Communications Committee. I intend to apply my engineering degree to the theme-park industry because I want to create rides and attractions that bring people together with joy, thrills, and fun! To relax, I like to look for four-leaf clovers around campus, to watch MatPat's theory videos on YouTube, and to hangout with my friends. I am thrilled to be part of SWE and feel free to reach out whenever!

SEC Chair
Cara Johnston
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation Date: May 2025
As the SEC Chair I help to serve as a point of contact between the Student Engineers' Council (SEC) and SWE. I attend SEC meetings to ensure I am up to date and to learn of any potential opportunities that I can then pass on to other members of SWE. These meetings also help me to keep other officers up to date on SEC information. I also apply for funding to help SWE put on a lot of great events throughout the year.
Outside of SWE, I am also involved in Hokie Ambassadors where I give tours to prospective students and the Human Powered Submarine Design Team. Some of my favorite activities outside of school include spending time outdoors especially near a river or lake. I also really enjoy traveling and taking road trips all across the country. I love being a part of SWE and feel free to reach out at any time!

Evening with the Industries Chair
Megan Gulian
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Minors: Psychology, Animal and Poultry Sciences
Graduation Date: May 2024
As the Evening With the Industries Chair for SWE, I am responsible for planning and executing SWE's Evening With the Industries dinner. This events takes place the week before the CAMEO career fest and acts as a networking opportunity for company representatives and SWE/CAMEO members. I'm super excited to be able to plan this opportunity for our members!
Outside of SWE, I am a member of the VT Club Tennis team, volunteer at VT's equine centers, an ambassador for the BEAM department, and a part of the Alpha Omega Epsilon sorority. I am also involved in research in the Wang Lab, where I will be completing my thesis for the accelerated masters program at VT on how histotripsy used for osteosarcoma treatment effects the mechanical properties of canine tendons. In my free time, I love going to the gym, hiking, and watching tv! Feel free to reach out anytime!

CAMEO Representative
Mehak Jit

As CAMEO Chair, I am responsible for assisting in planning the CAMEO Careerfest. "CAMEO" stands for the Council for the Advancement of Minority Engineering Organizations, an umbrella organization that oversees various groups at Virginia Tech.
Outside of SWE, I am involved with the Student Engineers' Council, ISA at VT and I am a UTA for ENGE 1215. In my free time I enjoy baking, watching movies and staying active! I also enjoy playing guitar and traveling. I also love learning about Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, and Operating Systems. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions! Conference Chair
Gracie Piscitelli
Major: Industrial and Systems Engineering

Graduation Date: May 2025
As conference chair, I oversee the planning and recruitment for Virginia Tech’s SWE members for the national women in engineering conference in Los Angeles, California. More specifically my role includes, booking hotels, going through applications, and coordinating travel plans for 24-28 members!
Outside of SWE, I am a TA for Foundations of Engineering 1215, and I am a chair in the Beekeeping Club and Wishmakers @ VT! I enjoy traveling, spending time with friends and family, shopping, and watching any show on HGTV!
